How we calculate our charges

Consultations

In general our fees for consultations reflect the charges made locally by most consultants in their private practice.

Reports

Reports can be requested by many people, for example, your insurance company. We will always need written authorisation from you before releasing any information to a third party and we also ask for payment in advance from whomever requests the information. The fee of £52.50 shown on our price list is the minimum we make.

Medico-legal Work

Requests for medico-legal work usually come to us via a solicitor  or a company acting for the patient, perhaps as part of a personal injury claim. As the work is usually complicated and time-consuming it attracts an increased scale of fees. These are in the region of £500 for the initial examination and report (up to 2 hours work), £300 per subsequent hour or part thereof. We do not take on medical negligence cases or provide home visits.

Procedures

All procedures are graded according to their complexity and charges are based upon this and the expected time that a procedure will take to carry out. A guide price for any procedure or course of treatment that you may have to consider can always be provided. Our Price List shows our charges for the most common procedures we carry out.

We have based our fees on the BUPA reimbursement scale plus an uplift of 15%. This is done to cover our expenses and outgoings and we consider that this represents a fair charge for the work we do.

Multiple procedures

If you have two or more procedures carried out at the same time, we do not just add all the separate prices together as the single procedure fee includes the surgeon’s time spent in opening and closing the patient, and it woul not be appropriate to charge this more than once.

The fee charged for a multiple procedure is calculated as follows:

  • For two procedures we take the fee for the most complex and add 25%
  • For three or more procedures, we take the fee for the most complex and add 40%.

The only time that the separate single fees would just be added together is when calculating as above would lead to an increased billing amount. i.e. when the 25% uplift is more than the price for the second and any subsequent procedures.

Fees for patients insured with AXA PPP

Mr Foley, Mr Kumar, Mr Jones and Lt Col Shah charge within the AXA PPP benefit guidelines and if you are insured with this company you should find that they cover the full cost of our fees unless your policy carries an excess or co-insurance liability, or you have exceeded your benefit allowance in a policy year.  These prices are slightly different to those shown on our price list so please call us if you need to know what we charge.

We always recommend that you contact AXA before treatment to check if you are covered.

As senior partners Mr Fawcett and Mr Malone charge our normal rates, which are outside the guidelines, and if you decide to see them, we would expect you to pay the shortfall.
