Description: Photoselective vaporisation of prostate

Code: M6760

Green Light Laser vaporisation of the prostate is performed using the KTP (potassium titanyl phosphate) laser. The laser energy is delivered under an anaesthetic via a special fibre that is inserted through a telescope (cystoscope) and the prostate is vaporised under direct vision.

Advantages over the standard procedure (TURP M6530) are:

· minimal blood loss
· shorter stay in hospital
· possible earlier return to work
· little effect on potency

The KTP laser is presently available at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and private patients will have their procedure performed there.
