Ureterolithotomy M2310
Description: Ureterolithotomy with intracorporeal laser disintegration
Code: M2310
This procedure uses a small bore telescope which is inserted via the urethra (water pipe) into the bladder and then up into ureter, the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder, to remove stones.
The stones may also need to be fragmented in order to facilitate their removal and this is usually done using a Holmium laser fibre.
There is almost always a need to insert a stent following this procedure for a short while to protect the tube and allow the kidney to drain.
Complications
Common
- Mild burning or bleeding for a short while after the operation.
- Insertion of a ureteric stent with a further procedure to remove it
- Stent related symptoms (described later)
Occasional
- Infection needing further treatment
- Failure of access if the ureter is too narrow which will require stent placement and a further procedure 2-3 weeks later
Rare
- Damage to ureter requiring stent placement for a longer period of time to allow it to heal and prevent urinary leak
- Scarring or stricture (narrowing) of the ureter.
Your hospital stay
Most patients are usually discharged on the same or the next day following the procedure.
